BLUEBELL CRAZY GOLF

In early April we were approached by Barry Smith of Christian Spencer Leisure who own the Bluebell at Dodworth to quote for various items on their crazy golf course. This was to include 4’ mesh fence panels, Galvanized and Powder Coated including posts, single gate and disabled handrails, work commenced on the 5th April 2008 manufacturing the posts and folding the mesh panels ready for galvanizing. When galvanized they were prepared for Powder Coating ready for Installation to began on the 14th April 2008.
CARTER 3200 X 125T –
5 AXIS CNC

In February of this year we purchased a press brake, over the last couple of years we have looked at various press brakes but circumstances always worked against us when deciding to buy.  However the old Edwards press brake was beginning to struggle, the machine was purchased in 1972 and has seen a lot of hard work.  Although still folding, it would not fold to its capacity and would only fold certain items correct.  Also the two large hydraulic rams that were the main stay of the machine were leaking.  We went to Carters in January of 2008 to see a similar machine working and were very impressed.  Where as everything on the old machine was manual the new machine was a 5 Axis C.N.C. this meant everything was automatic.  You can programme all your measurements, Thickness of material and profiles into the machines C N C system which consists of 3 parts: the colour touch screen, the PLC control system and the frequency change system.  They operate the back gauge motor drive and the top punch drive to a calculated position.  The C N C system is conversational and any job requirements you have can be programmed.  You can select different operational modes to quickly and accurately complete the presswork.  You just need to input data and proceed with the job.  All the data inputted is then saved for repeat jobs.  We realised the machine would not only speed up productions on repeat jobs but increase the kind of projects we could take on due to the large diversity of the tasks the machine can complete.  For example folding 0.9 Aluminium up to 6m Mild Steel pressings.
Hammer Cage – Thornes Park

In February 2007 we received a call from Wakefield Council regarding their damaged Hammer Cage. The doors were extensively damaged and there was also some damage to 2 side panels. Back at the workshop all the sections were manufactured. The side frames also needed to be braced as movement from the doors had caused them to distend. All sections were assembled on our premises before Galvanizing. On site for health and safety procedures to be followed fixed scaffolding was erected inside and outside of the cage so assembly of the frames and doors could be carried out safely. The side frames were installed and then the bracings followed, these were bolted to the side frames then concreted into the Ground.
Shallow End Disabled Steps

Our original disabled steps were extremely heavy and awkward to manoeuvre in and out of the pool this action took at least two people to carry out. Management were concerned that if one member of staff were to try and lift the steps from the pool then they could injure themselves.

Management contacted Andy at Brailsford who designed the disabled steps and made them so light that now one member of staff is able to lift the steps in and out the water without risk of injury.

Adele Horner - Leisure Officer
Tempo Bar, Barnsley

We were first approached in April 2006 to undertake some work in the Tempo Bar.  We had previously done work for Ally who also owns the Pulse Bar in Barnsley.  They wanted a Stainless Steel Barrier around the stage area to stop people gaining access on to it.  This was manufactured from 50mm Stainless Steel tube with tubular infils.  This work was complete for Xmas 2006.  After which we began to build up a good working relationship with them.  Some jobs only being small jobs like repairing Chairs and bar tables to larger jobs like manufacturing and Installing Stainless Steel handrails.  At Xmas 2007 we replaced a glass section around the speaker area with Stainless Steel perforated mesh so not to restrict the music.  At this moment in time we are manufacturing and Installing a Stainless Steel handrail system and shelf system around the D.J. area downstairs.  We have also completed work for Ally’s Cousin in the Base Bar.
Wakefield MDC - Lupset Golf Course

In January 2007 we were asked by Wakefield MDC to go and inspect some damaged fencing at Lupset Golf Course.  The fencing had been badly damaged by heavy gales. The main angle supports were rusted through and basically the fencing was just leant up against the trees.  We relayed our findings back to Wakefield MDC and it was agreed the fencing would be dismantled.  It took a day to take down the fencing.  The mesh was removed first, then the angle supports and brackets.  A new fence would be erected but not as high as the existing fence.  The fence would be manufactured from 40 x 40 x 3 R.H.S.  The mesh frame was manufactured from 25 x 25 x 3 angle in sections for easier handling with 25 x 25 x 10g mesh panels.  The main frame would also be braced back with supports concreted into the floor to add support.  The fencing was manufactured, then erected in our yard prior to Galvanizing.  When Galvanized the fencing took a couple of days to install.  The fencing was erected to protect the public using a public footpath at the rear.
Lucorum Bar, Barnsley

In December 2001 we were approached by John Whitworth to undertake some work on the Thomas Whitworth Forum Building.  These were some derelict buildings and yard at the rear of what used to be Butterfields Drapery Store.  The building and yard would be refurbished to include upmarket shops and a three floor Lucorum public house and restaurant.  We were asked to manufacture a Stainless Steel bar top to go over the existing wooden bar.  The centrepiece of the restaurant was to be a Python like supply pipe from the rear of the Bar to a free standing service point at the front of the bar.  We would also manufacture and install a Stainless Steel workstation at the rear of the bar.  John insisted that the bar top should be made all in one with no on site welding. Little did anyone realise that the bar top would not go up the Stairs in one Section.  After realising the Bar would not go upstairs we had two options either cut the bar and re-weld it on site, or take the bar up through a window which overlooked the courtyard.  To do this we had to take off the window guard, fit a hoist to a girder that ran parallel across the Yard, erect scaffolding to support us as we hoisted up the bar.  Once up to the height of the window the bar was swung into the restaurant area.  Job well done!  We also manufactured some Stainless Steel urinals for the pub area of the building.  It is now 2008, the Thomas Whitworth Forum has new owners but has got a reputation as one of Barnsley Top entertainment and shopping areas.
